Rainboots + Yellow + Chevron = Spring Porch Goodness

I thought about calling this, “Oops, I did it again,” because–seriously–I might just have a problem with tweaking. But yesterday’s chevron “C” got more of a toss than a tweak in favor of something a smidge more refined.

So, I grabbed a piece of foam core from Michael’s (on sale right now for ~$1.50) and cut it down to about 16″ x 20″ with my rotary cutter and mat. Then, using my quilting ruler, I added a grid of 4″ wide and 3″ high sections.

With a cheap foam brush, it is super easy to fill in the lines.

Then I did a google search for “monogram C fonts” and found this little pretty.

I used that as a guide to sketch a “C” onto my freshly chevron-striped foam core. [Of course, you could print it out big and trace it if that is easier.]

Then use a sharpie to trace the initial and a foam brush to fill it in.

Tweak with a fine paintbrush or sharpie as needed, and voila!

So yesterday’s little “C”…

…got a big upgrade! Wheeeee!

Thanks to a little ribbon hanger duct-taped to the back and a command strip to secure, up it went on the front door. I’m still waiting on the planters to be filled, but don’t you love those yellow wellies? I think they are the perfect spring-beckoning touch to the almost-finished porch.

Now bring on spring!

So, anyone else have your spring porch done? Do tell!

  1. Absolutely beautiful! How I miss the porches of the South! Now that we are in AZ, front porches are very rare (and delicate spring flowers burn up rather quickly here)…so I’ll just look at yours and dream….. 🙂
    Pretty post!

  8. I have found downloadable fonts, but can’t get them large enough. How do you increase the font? I’ll have to print and trace. My freehand is nothing like yours. Thanks! Love the yellow!!
