I’m at it again with paint + jewelry.

It’s a cute glass waterfall necklace I got a few years ago on clearance at Target.

But I rarely wear it, and the big glass stones are starting to yellow, so it was time for a makeover!

At first, I ran to Michael’s to buy some enamel paint (which is also available in these little bottles), but then I opted to just try the acrylics I already have on hand. [They worked like a charm!] I chose meadow green, cloudless, and light leaf green.

I flipped the necklace over to paint on the back of the glass pieces.

Then it was as easy as slopping a couple of coats of paint on.

Even though it looked a little sloppy from the back, the fronts of the glass stones looked fantastic. I touched up where needed and called it done!

And I am left with a necklace with the most delightful watery shades of blue and green.

I painted the bottom stones blue, then green, then light leaf green (which almost reads yellow), then back to green then blue again. I might seal the back with a coat of mod podge to prevent scratching… But I was too eager to wear it today, so that will have to wait! 🙂

[Update: I wore my “new” necklace that day and the next with no scratches or problems, but i did go ahead and seal the backs with a coat of gloss mod podge just for durability.]

And shazaam! Just like that, an old yellowing piece has new life!

Now I’m going to be on the lookout for other neglected glass pieces to makeover, wheeeeee!
