I got a cute ruffled tank on super sale at one of my faves, Altar’d State, recently. I think it was about $10, maybe $15. But upon further reflection, I decided that the wide ruffle just hit at the most unflattering spot possible: right at my waist. So it flaired out right where my waist goes in. And like any woman wants to look like she is carrying an extra innertube of weight around! AmIright?
So I grabbed a soft old long-sleeved t-shirt and cut out a couple of strips of fabric to use.
I cut the tank right at the shoulders, then spliced in the two “strap extenders.”
Since jersey doesn’t fray (and this top already has a loose boho look going for it), I didn’t bother to hem the new pieces.
And shazam! This top went from painfully unflattering to marvelous, just like that!
I love the contrast of the strap extenders being tan, so I switched to a tan tank underneath instead of white.
It is seriously amazing to me what a difference a few minutes and a few inches can make in the way a piece of clothing looks!
Now hitting at my hips, this shirt is much more flattering.
This is the shirt I wore in our Christmas pictures, too, under a green wool jacket.
And it was just perfect under a black velvet blazer and with a sparkly necklace for a night out on the town. Huzzah! And hooray for a simple, free, fast makeover! Happy New Year to you & yours from the Camp! I’m looking forward to another amazing year with you in 2015!
What a difference! Those few inches made for a MUCH nicer fit. I like the contrast of the extensions. The Ms Matchy-Match in me probably would have used white… I’m trying to get better about that.

This is brilliant!!!!!! I can’t stand shirts that are too short! And I haven’t come up with an easy fix for it. You did though! Thank you!!!
