When Sis and I were up at the boys’ school volunteering one day and the sweet 5th grade assistant asked me if Sis wanted a leftover grade shirt, we were so excited!Of course, a size large, even a youth size large, swallows 4-year-old Sis, so it was time for another shirt makeover!
I have a tutorial for how to make a little girls ruffled hem dress from a t-shirt.
But be warned: it is so easy that you might find yourself cutting up every shirt in sight!
With this one I made an adjustment to my usual method: rather than adding a contrasting fabric for the ruffle, I cut enough length off the bottom of the shirt that I could cut that length in half and sew the two pieces end to end to make a same-fabric ruffle (just like I did with that maxi dress of mine I cut up).
So it is more tunic length than a dress, perfect layered over black leggings and turtleneck!
The ribbon added at the shoulder is not for function, just a fun added touch. Because polka dots!
The self-fabric ruffle adds excellent twirlability, a necessity for little girldom, I think.
Here’s the tute, now go cut somethin’ up, wheeee!
{P.S. She wants to know if she’s allowed to go on 5th grade field trips now, oi.}
I love this idea, similar to pillowcase dresses, gave me an idea to recycle clothes that were to small for me or others, into little girl dresses.
