When Discouragement Hits

{Ever feel like the enemy strategically gathers a whole arsenal of discouragement to unleash on you when you’re tired?} After going to bed WAY too late one night a couple of weeks ago… My blog received an unusually low number of views… and even fewer click-throughs to to that day’s guest post… And how embarrassing is that because it was my first guest post at another blog… And I didn’t get the Creative Mom blogs top 25 thing, which is fine, but then I figure maybe it’s because no one finds me the least bit entertaining or creative… And maybe I’ve made a fool of myself to even throw my hat in the ring… And I’m feeling the embarrassment rise hot in my cheeks… And I hang my head down low… And maybe I’m a creative sham… And blogging? *sigh* Maybe I should just pack in that whole notion altogether b/c what was I thinking anyway…

And just as this crushing cacophony in my head and heart reaches its crescendo, I remember…

But God.

Like in Genesis 8:1 and 17:19 and 50:20 and Judges 15:9 and Psalm 49:15 and 73:26 and Acts 13:30 and Romans 5:8 and 1 Corinthians 1:27 and 2 Corinthians 7:6 and Ephesians 2:4-5 and Philippians 2:27…

Everywhere you go, there’s God’s big but (haha).

And Jeremiah 17:9 confirms what we often realize after a good night’s sleep, the roller coaster on which we can sometimes allow our emotions to take us, the pit into which we can be tempted to let them drag us: “The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; who can understand it?” So, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

The next time you are feeling a little weary, whether your burdens be a trifle (like mine) or the meat of heavy sorrow, remember “but God,” and look up. He’s not done.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

Don’t you love it when God “buts” in?

Perhaps some more encouragement for your soul?

  1. I have CampClem set as a news feed on my phone. Every one of your posts are directly fed to my phone like most people read their favorite newspapers or magazines. (By the way, it is my only news feed.) I don’t know if this counts as a click or a hit….but it counts in my day.

This is my first comment but I thought you should know that today was one of those days for me. After reading your blog, I pulled out my Bible and looked up your scripture references. I took a deep breath and was filled with peace.

I don’t want to disagree with you, but your blog isn’t about clicks, hits or volume….it is about touching lives, even if it is one at a time. I’d take quality over quantity any day. So, please keep doing what you are doing and know that it is making a difference.

Your friend and avid fan, Julie.

  2. I’ve got to agree with Julie on this one. Your blog is so much more than clicks and hits, your blog touches your readers on a far deeper level.. look at the impact you’ve made all over the world, spreading the good news of God’s love for us!

I was told about your blog from a former student of yours, and it has been such a joy to be a small part of CampClem! I recently got married in June and now we are expecting our first baby, and I’ve gotta say, you and your family inspire me so greatly! I am so excited about raising our family; making cheese stick lightsabers and cute ruffle pants! You write about marriage and family the way I think we women are suppose to embrace it as: a God-centered, FUN, love-filled and exciting adventure!

Please don’t let the enemy drag you down and beat you up, you are made for so much more! Thank you for sharing your life with us, I know I look forward to many more posts from you!

    Your friend, Mallory (:
