Feeling inspired by this day-o-love, I dug into my fabric stash.
A pulled a plain white hand towel, some ruffled fabric, and some jumbo ric-rac. [I got these lovely, soft kitchen hand towels in a 3-pack from Walmart when I made these towels.]
[I happen to have a basket full of pre-ruffled fabric about 3″ wide that I use for ruffle pants and other projects, but if you need to ruffle some fabric for this project, you can see the super simple way to do it here, or just ruffle as you go for this project, like in this tutorial.]
And the ric-rac and finished edges are not necessary, but they are nice details…
I played around with different combos…
…thought about skipping straight past Valentine’s to spring…
…but decided to go with pink, pink, and more pink.
I used a washable marker to mark straight lines right onto my towel.
I spaced my three lines about 1-1/2″ apart so my ruffles would overlap a bit.
Then i sewed the bottom ruffle to the towel, lining it up with my marker line as I went. [You could also pin if you’re worried about getting off track.]
This project could not have been easier. I love a project that has almost-instant gratification!
I turned the raw edges of the ruffled fabric under and gave them a quick stitch or two at their hems to secure. But if you are going “raw,” like I did for this purse/tote, then leave the edges unfinished!
All of 15 minutes later, it’s ready to use!
I am loving this little bit of pink for Valentine’s Day! And how cute would these be for teacher or neighbor gifts?! [Then Sis can use this towel for her retro pink play kitchen the rest of the year, wheeee!]
Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all!
