How To Turn An Old Polo Into A Kid’s Cheer Skirt & Applique

With another season of sports upon us (Big Bro in flag football and Li’l Bro in t-ball this spring), it’s time to whip up another little cheer outfit for Sis!

01 tee ball lil bro

Gotta cheer on the boys, right? Li’l Bro is on the Cubs team, and his uniform colors are royal blue and red.

So as I was sorting out Li’l Bro’s outgrown clothes, it occurred to me that this royal blue 4T polo would make the perfect makings of a cheer outfit for Sis, huzzah!

So I laid it out flat on my cutting mat.

And I cut the bottom off right under the armpits.

And I cut Li’l Bro’s embroidered name (from the chest of the shirt) into his jersey number.

So I ended up with these two pieces. To make the skirt, I simply turned under the top about an inch and sewed in a loop of elastic for the waistband. [Since this is knit, it will not fray, so I only turned it under once.]

I added a cut felt “C” to match the cubs logo on Li’l Bro’s hat.

Then I zig-zag stitched around the “7” in blue and the “C” in red.

And Shazaam! Li’l Bro’s old, outgrown shirt became Sis’s new cheer outfit! Wheeeeeeeeee!

Now she’s ready to cheer, “Go team, go!” Well… and get a candy at the snack shack… and draw chalk drawings… and play with her ball field friends…

Okay, I admit, she’s not really into watching a tee ball game, but she sure will look all kinds of cute while *I* cheer on THIS GUY! Go, Li’l Bro, go!!

So you KNOW I love to make Sis something theme-colored and cute for her brothers’ sports seasons. Please tell me I’m not the only one!!

New here? …Or just in need of a recap? Well… here’s an obnoxious number of Sissy’s cheer post ideas I’ve shared. [Yes, I guess I am that mom apparently, oi.]
